How do you use Junior and Senior on your wedding invitation?

This question came up this week when we were working on writing up the wording for a Chicago wedding I have in April. The father of the bride is a Junior, so the question came up on how this is properly done on the wedding invitation and I thought I would share this common question with my readers.

Most properly, the junior or senior should be written out. So for your wedding invitation, the father's name will be appear as Mr. Frank Thomas Jones, junior or Mr. Frank Thomas Jones, Jr. When you abbreviate Junior or Senior, the J or S should be capitalized. Also, don't forget the comma after the last name before you write in junior or Jr.

If a man is named after his father who is a Junior, then he will be the III. So example would be Mr. Thomas Elias Jones III. No comma is needed before the III.
