I LOVED Jenny and Marten Spencers wedding at the Zimbali Lodge in South Africa. And especially so as I was a bridesmaid and was so happy to be there with them celebrating.
Great News for those in wedding dress shopping mode! Vera Wang has arrived at David's Bridal allowing more brides the luxury of wearing a dress designed by a couture designer. With five locations in the Chicago area, the White Line by Vera Wang has dresses ranging in price from $600 to $1400 and are featured in white, ivory, blush and chamgagne. In June, your bridesmaids will also be able to select Vera Wang dresses when she releases a line just for bridesmaids.
One of my favorite parts of the wedding day is the time that the bride spends getting ready at her home or in the hotel suite with her bridesmaids, Mom and friends. It is a fun time to bond and relax before the busy wedding day starts. Often times we will have hair and makeup artists come on-site to also make sure everyone looks gorgeous on the wedding day.
There’s a new tape hitting the United States, making it easier to decorate and seal than ever. It’s a Japanese product called Happytape-colored masking tape made of Japanese washi paper. I personally think whoever came up with the idea is genius. The tape is elegant and looks like ribbon but is really thin and easy to tear. The best part about it is that it comes in every color and pattern imaginable. Happytape works great on boxes, envelopes, bags, cards, basically anything you can think of. Wrap up your bridesmaids or groomsmen gifts with some fun tape that match your wedding colors.
I have been so excited about all the pictures from the evening events surrounding The Royal Wedding. The Duchess of Cambridge (also known to all of us as Kate) wore an elegant evening dress, once again designed by Sarah Burton of Alexander McQueen. The dress was satin with diamante detailing around the skirt. She wore a small white shrug in the pictures that were captured. It was a beautiful dress and Kate looked so elegant. The groom changed as well into a traditional tuxedo with a bow tie. Expect to see bow ties on the grooms and groomsmen as the whole wedding world and fashion world looks to what the Royal Wedding trends were.
This week I got to talk with the WGN TV 5pm anchor news, Lourdes Duarte about non-traditional wedding gift registry items. Tuesday we looked at charity gift registries, like Kate and William are doing for their Royal Wedding. Today we look at some of the other ideas that I spoke of and are great ideas for couples to consider when registering.
The Royal Wedding Week is here! I have waited anxiously for months for this week to arrive. And right now all the talk is, what will Kate Middleton's wedding dress look like? The blogs and newspapers are filled to the brim with speculation and tips on who will design the dress. Clarence House and the Official Royal Wedding website have been very forthcoming and transparent with the details of the wedding day. On Saturday they released a ninety-page media document with the guest list, seating layout for Westminster Abbey and some of the wedding vendors that are taking part in the wedding of the century. One thing it did not include was ANY details or mention of Kate's wedding dress.
I have always been a fan of Kate Spade and their shop in Chicago is a must visit a couple of times a year. Purses, cute gifts for bridal party, amazing shoes, fun jewelry.....Well now, they have "gone bridal" and have released their new wedding collection. You will find adorable white dresses which are perfect for one of your bridal showers or at your rehearsal dinner and beautiful shoes for your wedding day.
If you are like me and live in Chicago, you miss the big yellow Sun in the sky. I love my Chicago Springs and know it is around the corner. I really also love Weddings in Chicago DURING the springtime. So, adding some sunshine and happiness to your day with some gorgeous details from a wedding that Kurt Gerber photographed and I planned a couple of springs ago!
Yesterday was one of those fun days and I got to get out of the office and attendLuscious Layers Open House and eat cake and sweets! Ashley moved to a storefront in Chicago in the Bucktown neighborhood in August of 2009 and has been baking up masterpiece cakes for weddings, showers, birthday parties and anniversaries.
I love talking to the press and love when they call upon me for my expertise! Tammy Chase who writes for the Chicago Sun Times called me about three weeks ago to talk about my experience with brides who are a little older than the average bride which is reported to be 26. Turns out we had just helped Tim and Amy plan their fabulous wedding and they are both over 40. You can read the great article online but also read my tips for older brides who are getting married online.
Yesterday, Anthropologie unveiled it's new wedding line called BHLDN which will offer wedding gowns, bridesmaids dresses, jewelry, hair adornments and accessories. The new line has four "themes" of brides which are Nostalgic Romantic, Neo-Sophisticate, La Bohemienne, and Lady with a Twist and makes me think of classic brides like Jackie O, Audrey and Grace. This new line offers a very vintage bride an area to purchase unique and one of the kind items for her wedding without having to scour the different antique stores.
Happy Valentine's Day to all of you today!!! Rather than a typical pink and red "valentine's" post today, I am posting a gorgeous winter engagement shoot of Liz and Brian shot by the very talented YazyJo back in January. It was a cold day in Chicago but as you can see, you can capture some of the most romantic shots even in the middle of winter.
The New York Times does it, Time Magazine does it and this year, Engaging Events by Ali does it. Yup, a look back in pictures at the year 2010. The below photo montage looks at highlights of the amazing year that 2010 was. I was able to meet new people, see old friends, make new friends and got to travel speaking at wonderful conferences in amazing locations. It was a great year and thank you too all my friends, vendors, brides and grooms, pilots who got me there safely, cab drivers who got me there safely (this one was questionable at Bridal Market in NYC-cabs in NYC are just scary), and all the hotel employees who took care of me when I was traveling away from home. I especially want to thank my husband for holding down the fort when I was gone.
